We have overcome discrimination against cancer, HIV/AIDS, minorities, and other groups of people because people with cancer, HIV/AIDS, minorities, etc. have stood up and demanded it. Until large numbers of people with mental illness are willing to stand up against discrimination, people with mental illness will continue to have their rights violated. As a long-time consumer of mental health services and a consumer advocate I encourage everyone with a mental illness to stand up and say "end the discrimination NOW!"
